It can be used to stay anonymous while on the move. Regular data packets containing device identifiers are sent whenever WiFi/WLAN is active, and sniffers can read these packets to build movement profiles. This may not suit everyone.
Your smartphone's battery will last much longer when you shut down all its networks. WiFi-o-Matic offers many energy-saving options. You can define some controls yourself, while the app sets others on its own. Beyond conserving power, the app is also handy for taking your phone offline, meaning all data traffic stops while basic phone functions keep working.
If you want to connect, turn on Wi-Fi at the start. WiFi-o-Matic will store this information and connect to Wi-Fi automatically whenever you return to that area.
The app is split into two sections: STATUS, and NEW CONTROLS or SETTINGS. Under STATUS you can view a list of active controls. You can modify any control, and WLAN-o-Matic can also be paused or resumed.
You can save and create a NEW CONTROL in the NEW CONTROLS section.
You'll find the app's global settings under SETTINGS, where you can turn off AUTO-LEARNING.
WiFi-o-Matic Pro offers the following control options: SCREEN ON/OFF, CELL ID, TIME, and LOCATION.
The general rule is that ON takes priority over OFF, with the TIME and SCREEN ON/OFF controls as exceptions, where OFF follows ON.
This control carries the most weight. When the screen is off, it ALWAYS shuts down WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data, and/or automatic data sync. When the screen turns on, WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data, and/or data sync are switched back on.
When your phone connects to a specific mobile network, the CELL ID control turns on WiFi, Bluetooth data traffic, and/or data sync. This control doesn't depend on your location, only on whether you are connected to the same transmission towers, or cell IDs. WiFi-o-Matic will remember your WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data, and data sync settings for each one.
CELL ID controls can't be created manually; the app learns and saves them automatically. If you don't need the app to learn any new CELL ID controls, disable this option under SETTINGS. This control is the most efficient, so it should usually be your first choice. The LOCATION control works in a similar way but requires a GPS signal, which uses more energy. Although the CELL ID control is less precise than LOCATION, it should still be your first choice.
TIME controls let you turn WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data, or automatic data sync off again after a set period. You can even choose specific days. For example, you could have your phone switch off at night between 11 PM and 7 AM. If you forget to charge your phone overnight, this saves a great deal of energy.
LOCATION is intended for tablet users who can't receive mobile signals.
OFFLINE BREAK pauses the controls currently in place, allowing Wi-Fi, for example, to stay on.
How to install
