40K is dystopian, dark, and heavy. That was my impression going in, so I was surprised by how exhilarating the game is. First, the flick-to-move controls feel great. This comfort reminds me of “Fire Emblem Heroes.” Even better are the battle effects! It can feel like playing a shooter.

“DEATH FROM THE SKY” IS A MUST-SEE! ATTACK ANIMATIONS AND SOUND EFFECTS ARE EXHILARATING

Part of what makes combat so satisfying is the flashy attack effects. The sound effects are another highlight. These alone are enough to impress, but the flick-to-attack controls make it feel as though you are attacking personally. Rather than just moving a unit, it feels like you are firing the gun yourself. This kind of feeling is rare in simulation games.

The unit “Bellator” also has a standout ability, “Death from the Sky,” which is especially thrilling. Multiple allied units called Inceptors descend from the sky and focus their fire on enemy units! It feels as satisfying as a special move in a fighting game.

STRATEGY MATTERS TOO! THE CHALLENGING RUSH MODE IS FUN

It is wonderful that, despite all the excitement, the game never loses the real appeal of the analog wargame “Warhammer.” Of course, the true pleasure lies in strategy and tactics. High ground gives a clear advantage, and mechanics like setting the map on fire for continuous damage add depth. Story mode is relatively easy, and the difficulty stays manageable even when you push ahead. Rush mode, which withstands multiple waves, is much tougher. If you don’t think carefully about how to fight, it is hard to survive to the end. If you want real strategy and tactics, give rush mode a try.
