What are the system requirements and first launch instructions?
System Requirements:
- Android 11 or newer (no special file access needed on Android 11+).
- Processor: ARM64.
- Graphics: OpenGL ES 3.0+.
- RAM: at least 3 GB.
- Storage: roughly 2.5 GB of free space.
First Launch Info:
On first launch, the game unpacks its data (about 576 MB), which takes around a minute. Keep the app open and don't lock your screen during this step. Later launches will be noticeably quicker, although weaker devices may still take a little longer.
How to use gamepads and customize touch controls?
This port works fully with Bluetooth gamepads, supporting official console layouts (Switch, PS4, Xbox). Once a gamepad is connected, the on-screen touch buttons hide automatically, and tapping the screen brings them right back.
How to customize touch controls:
- Press and hold the on-screen ESC button for about one second.
- The port's settings menu will open.
- From there you can open the layout editor to move and resize buttons, adjust stick dead zones, use a virtual PC keyboard, and switch between 16:9 and Fullscreen display modes.
How to transfer save files from PC (Steam/GOG) to Android?
All game files on your phone live in internal storage at .../Android/media/com.isaac.abplus/, which you can open with any file manager.
Step-by-step guide:
- On your PC, open the folder Documents/My Games/Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+.
- Copy your save files. You'll need files named abp_persistentgamedata1.dat (Slot 1), abp_persistentgamedata2.dat (Slot 2), and so on. If you want to keep unfinished runs, you can also copy abp_gamestate1-3.dat.
- On your phone, place these files in the saves/ folder inside the game directory.
- Fully close the game and launch it again. Your saves will load automatically, and the files will be moved into the saves/imported/ folder.
Note: The saves/current/ folder always holds a backup of your active saves. To restore them, simply copy the files from there back into the main saves/ folder.
How to install and manage Mods?
You can install mods manually from the Steam Workshop. Each mod folder must include a metadata.xml file.
Installation steps:
- Copy your mod folder into the mods/ directory on your phone (path: .../Android/media/com.isaac.abplus/mods/).
- Launch the game. The mod installs automatically, and its folder is renamed to include its ID.
- To turn it on, open the in-game menu and go to Mods → Enable, then restart your run.
- Removing a mod is easy: just delete its folder from the mods/ directory.
IMPORTANT: Resource mods (graphics, fonts, music, translations) run reliably. Mods that include Lua scripts (main.lua), however, are still experimental and unstable. If the game crashes or won't launch, remove any script mods.
Troubleshooting: What should you do if the game crashes or displays a black screen?
How to fix issues and locate crash logs:
- Start by confirming your device has at least 3 GB of free storage and meets the minimum requirements (Android 11 or newer, ARM64).
- If the app crashes, a file called crash_log.txt will appear automatically in the main game folder.
- For more advanced debugging, create an empty file named debug (with no file extension such as .txt) inside the game folder.
- Launch the game again. It will produce detailed logs called box64.txt and, if it crashes, isaac_diag.txt.
Note: Remember to delete the "debug" file once you've collected the logs, since leaving it in place can slow the game down!
How to install
