During a battle, soul bits, also called hand cards, can be drawn from gear (equipment) and used as actions. Players decide which combinations of primary weapon, sub-weapon, armor, and accessories will form their Strategy (deck).

In battle, you can select only one soul bit on the opening turn, but the number you can choose at once may increase depending on the enemy's weaknesses, guarding, dodging, buffing, or debuffing, along with various other situations. The Arts ability activates when a specific combination of soul bits, or currently held cards, is chosen at the same moment.
