The Consecutive Slash System from Amakusa Kourin has been dropped, and the Kenki gauge has been added, creating a system built around heavy hits that harks back to the original formula. The key change is that weapon-flying special move commands have been unified, making special moves easier to perform for every character. The origin of the beloved Zero series! The controls follow the style of the first generation and “Shin”: A is a weak slash, B a medium slash, and pressing AB together delivers a strong slash. C handles kicks, and D triggers special actions, with a range of moves available by combining inputs with the joystick. The rage gauge and the “rage explosion” triggered by pressing ABC together also carry over. The “Kenki” gauge, which will return in future entries, changes attack power depending on how full it is. Because of it, the game feels like a return to the roots, focusing less on continuous combos.

The “Shura/Rakshasa” system introduced in “Zankoro Musouken” has been removed, and most character techniques are consolidated in this title. Fans will be impressed by the new characters who share traits with the Rasetsu fighters: “Rasetsumaru,” “Rela,” “Enja,” and “Suija” are each designed to differ from the original characters. Command techniques are simpler to execute, so the complex series now feels more approachable.

The “Kenki” gauge is directly tied to attack power, with the strength of each hit determined by how full it is. It drains when you attack and refills when you hold back. When the gauge is at MAX, attack power gets a boost, and the boost grows further when the rage gauge is at MAX or during a rage explosion. Rather than attacking recklessly, aim for one-hit kills as in the original Samsupi.
