    Description

A worldwide Iftar and Sehar countdown clock with daily Ramadan timings and alarms. Designed for both phones and tablets. It relies on a highly precise method, accurate to roughly 1 arcminute within two centuries of 2000, the same approach used by the U.S. Naval Observatory to calculate sunrise, sunset and twilight. It also includes extra options for time calculations at high latitudes.

    KEY FEATURES:

    * A clean interface that shows the time remaining until Iftar or Sehar. * A monthly view of Ramadan timings. * Hijri (Islamic) calendar. * Alarm options that can be set to go off a chosen number of minutes before Iftar or Sehar. * Support for several time calculation methods. * The full Azan alarm plays while the app is running in the foreground. * Background alarms sound on the device even when the app is closed.

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎ Ramaḍān, IPA: [rɑmɑˈdˤɑːn];[variations] Persian: ‎ Ramazān; Urdu: ‎ Ramzān; Turkish: Ramazan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and Muslims around the world observe it as a month of fasting. This yearly observance is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon, as described in numerous biographical accounts compiled in the hadiths. The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramida or ar-ramad, meaning scorching heat or dryness. Fasting is obligatory (fardh) for adult Muslims, except for those who are ill, traveling, pregnant, diabetic or experiencing menstrual bleeding.

While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations, and according to some interpretations they also avoid swearing. Food and drink are served each day, before sunrise and after sunset. In Islam, the rewards (thawab) of fasting are considered great, and they are believed to be multiplied during this month. During Ramadan, Muslims typically increase their salat (prayers) and their recitation of the Quran.

Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, self-improvement and deeper devotion. Muslims are encouraged to put greater effort into living by the teachings of Islam. The fast (sawm) begins at dawn and ends at sunset. Beyond abstaining from food and drink, Muslims also practice greater restraint, avoiding sexual relations as well as idle and sinful speech and behavior. Fasting is said to turn the heart away from worldly concerns, with the aim of purifying the soul by freeing it from harmful impurities. Ramadan also helps Muslims build self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice and empathy for those less fortunate, encouraging acts of generosity and obligatory charity (zakat).

Fasting becomes compulsory for Muslims once they reach puberty, as long as they are healthy, sound of mind and free from disabilities or illness. Travel, menstruation, serious illness, pregnancy and breastfeeding are all valid exemptions. However, many Muslims with medical conditions choose to fast to meet their spiritual needs, and healthcare professionals must work with their patients to find common ground. Those who decide to continue fasting should be closely monitored by professionals.

Although fasting is not required in childhood, many children try to complete as many fasts as they can as practice for later life. Those who are unable to fast must make up the missed days. According to the Quran, people who are ill or traveling (musaafir) are excused from the obligation, but they must still make up the missed days later.
