When was the last time you enjoyed a truly minimalist adventure game? After long sessions of intense role-playing battles or battlefield shooters, it's time to slow down, explore, and conquer the pyramids.

Ancient Treasure Hunt Goal

Pyramid Quest is a short journey through ancient pyramids, where you overcome treacherous traps on your way to the hidden treasures.

Before reaching the treasure, though, you'll need to open a series of doors leading to different sections of the pyramid.

To unlock the door at the end of each scene, you must collect all three artifacts left by the Pharaohs of old. Fit these pieces together, and the door will open automatically, carrying you to the next level.

Along the way, you'll find smaller treasures scattered here and there (not the great treasure mound you're searching for, of course), containing Diamonds and Coins. By exploring actively, overcoming obstacles and enemies, and gathering these items and artifacts, your character will gradually unlock new skills.

These skills mainly help you survive the dangerous pyramid as you work toward the ultimate prize: the precious Giant Treasure.

Conquering the Pyramid Is No Easy Task

Ancient pyramids are notorious for their deadly traps, and Pyramid Quest proves this reputation well deserved.

You'll constantly face pitfalls and obstacles, with danger closing in from every side. A single fall can cost you a large chunk of health and be hard to recover from. To get past these hazards, a calm and decisive mindset works best: stop at the right moment, move at the right moment, and stay cautious yet agile. The obstacles don't always stay still either; some move like complex machinery built into the pyramid. Only the most fearless and nimble adventurer will make it through.

Beyond traps, roadblocks, and terrain tricks, you'll also meet countless enemies: witches, wizards, ancient mummies, and more. Each type comes in many levels, with different movement patterns and attacks. Early scenes let them appear one at a time, which is manageable. Later, they gather in crowds searching for you, all while countless traps lie in wait nearby. Getting through these situations is never easy, and the challenge steadily grows as you push deeper into the pyramids in search of treasure.

Common traps in Pyramid Quest include tunnels, boulders, darts, sharp spikes, and deep water pits. The enemies are equally varied: besides the powerful characters mentioned above, there are unpredictable creatures such as scorpions, rattlesnakes, spiders, and bats. Don't let the easy opening scenes fool you; these creatures will come at you in turn and tear you apart if you let your guard down.

What Do You Need to Win?

Each level starts you off with 4 hearts. Every time you hit an obstacle or enemy, you lose one heart, and when your hearts run out, you die. In levels where hearts appear, collect them right away to improve your chances of survival. Be careful too: jumping from a high place down to a much lower one also costs you a heart.

To make it through each increasingly tense screen, you need to master the controls and your character as quickly as possible.

Thankfully, Pyramid Quest uses a classic control scheme that keeps the game accessible to all players. The navigation button sits on the left, while the skill buttons on the right handle jumping and throwing a sword.

By combining these two virtual buttons, you'll guide your character through a variety of traps and fight off enemies as they appear.

When you need to get past an enemy, you can either jump over its head or throw your sword. Jumping carries the risk of not clearing the enemy high enough, and touching one ends the game. Throwing a sword requires ammunition: swords can be found in each level, and any you don't use can be carried over to the next stage, up to a maximum of 4 stored swords.
