To get your smartphone and TV receiver talking to each other, both devices need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
The app usually finds your set-top box automatically. If it doesn't detect the device for some reason, you can enter its IP address by hand.
A nice extra is built-in voice control. You can switch channels and move through menu items simply by speaking commands. It recognizes your voice quite accurately, making it a worthy alternative to modern remote controls.
