Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is a horror action adventure in which you explore the ruins of a toy factory armed with a backpack that fires a magic hand, the “GrabPack”. As the name suggests, it is a direct sequel to “Poppy Playtime Chapter 1” and picks up right where the first chapter ends. The main character is the same person as before, but the scares are reinvented! In Chapter 1, the protagonist defeated the giant blue doll HuggyWuggy, and this time they face Mommy Long Legs, a pink doll with stretchable limbs. Get ready for horror and puzzles that go even further than the original.

Explore with magic hands! Solve the mystery and move forward

Use the GrabPack to shoot a hand at whatever you want to examine and observe how it reacts. The player, the main character, must explore the factory ruins, uncover the truth behind an employee's disappearance, and find a way out. The factory is filled with puzzle-like mechanisms, and you can't advance until you solve them. The tool for tackling these mechanisms is the backpack-mounted magic hand, the GrabPack.

Tap the button marked with the bill icon to fire each hand. When a released hand touches an object you can control, it latches on. Even while attached, your character can move, but only as far as the hand's wire allows. Light objects such as cardboard boxes or stepladders can be dragged along while you pull them.

Once you've figured out the puzzles, keep in mind the GrabPack's electrical ability. Touch a power source with one hand and you can send electricity through to the other. Using electricity to operate the machines inside the toy factory is key to solving the mystery.

Playing the first game is almost essential. Think of it as Stage 2 rather than a standalone chapter

Sequels usually share the same story, world, and protagonist, yet the previous entry stands complete on its own. This title, however, splits the first and second episodes into one package, so starting at Chapter 2 is like tuning into a serial drama midway through. You won't know why the main character is here, what is happening, or where the GrabPack came from.

If you want to play, I strongly recommend starting with Poppy Playtime Chapter 1. Even if you've played it before, replay it if you've forgotten most of the story. The mobile version of the first game costs about half the price of this release, so buying both comes to roughly 1,000 yen.

On PC, the first chapter is free and Chapter 2 costs a little over 1,000 yen, so if you play both in one go, the total price difference between mobile and PC is small. This chapter is not especially action-heavy, so it's comfortable to play even on a phone. If you want casual sessions on the go or in bed, the mobile version is a great choice!

Horror and puzzles that surpass the first game

The first game's story is not recapped here. If you've forgotten it, replaying is worth the time. This chapter is designed for players who have fully completed Chapter 1, so newcomers may find themselves lost. On the other hand, returning players won't have to repeat the same tasks they already know.

The fear and mystery-solving in this chapter are by no means a rehash of the first game. It builds on what came before and takes it to a new level!

Master the GrabPack! Challenging riddles

Solving the mysteries can feel abrupt right after the game begins. That is by design. This chapter assumes you've finished Chapter 1, so difficulty ramps up immediately afterward. If you've forgotten the first chapter's events, it may feel too hard at first. However, had the puzzles been kept at the same level as the opening of Chapter 1, players who remember it would find them too easy and feel the game was just repeating itself.

Given this, I felt the difficulty was well judged. If you remember Chapter 1 and play through, the challenge should feel fair and satisfyingly chewy!

Creepy horror attacks! Mommy Long Legs

In the previous installment, HuggyWuggy's fear was fairly simple: it was threatened by a huge, violent creature, which is a direct kind of fear. Mommy Long Legs, on the other hand, unsettles players in a different way, feeling not only frightening but also deeply unpleasant. Its long, stretched limbs twist and move around in ways that are hard to watch. The unsettling feeling deepens because it doesn't die the first time you meet it. Of course, being hunted by something that keeps saying, "I'll kill you!" is terrifying in its own right.

Another change comes at the very start, when the main character loses their left hand from the GrabPack. The GrabPack is practically the only tool you have in this game, so seeing it incomplete leaves you feeling uneasy from the outset. This clever touch shows that the sequel is far from a simple repeat of the first game. Even its horror feels fresh and carefully designed.
