…a dying sun incinerated our world, leaving barren deserts swallowed by relentless conflict and endless time. Thus, we embarked across the cosmic void, wandering aimlessly in search of serenity and a fresh start.

Over time, the cosmos seemed to forgive our transgressions, sheltering us under foreign stars and sustaining us with the riches of new worlds. Yet our destructive nature was never truly forgotten.

Decades of suffering sowed bitterness across mankind's fragmented colonies. The vast heavens had offered the promise of a sanctuary… but that hope quickly decayed into avarice, avarice turned to hatred, and hatred ignited open war: the Faction Wars.

Rampant civil strife drove us toward the outer rim of the galaxy, and pushed our species to its breaking point. Something waited for us in the deep dark. We ignored them entirely, like a fool staring at the finger rather than the moon. And they overlooked us in return, like ancient deities indifferent to the petty squabbles of insects.

Abandoned to our fate, humanity fractured into two unyielding camps: our faction, the Terrans, and our estranged kin, the Alterians. Both born of Earth, yet separated by an unbridgeable ideological chasm. The Terrans—gritty, tough, forged in mechanical grime and sweat, forever chasing the frontier. The Alterians—refined, hyper-advanced, breathtaking, yet hopelessly consumed by an uncanny pursuit of synthetic perfection.

The two surviving lineages of mankind drifted further apart, like bitter brothers locked in a perpetual feud over their heritage. One path demanded relentless expansion and ruthless exploitation of resources; the other, shedding human flaws in a futile bid for ascension. We embraced the former and launched the first strike. We plundered and leveled entire worlds without a shred of remorse. Now, the terrifying retribution of the Alterians unfolds all around us. For all their celebrated grace and righteousness, their vengeance is utterly savage.

I look up into the darkening skies, fully aware that our colony will not survive the day. Whichever banner you choose in the trials ahead, I plead with you: bring humanity together once more, wipe out those who stand in your way, and unburden us from the curse of our past. Above all, grant forgiveness to the soul I once was.

May the horizon never be fractured like this again.
