If a ship survives a battle, the player can choose to approach and board it. Damaged ships show signs of burning and breaking apart. If the two vessels are close enough, a fight breaks out between their crews, shifting the focus away from ship-to-ship combat. Before the fight, the player can return to the seaports to recruit and upgrade the crew and improve the ship’s combat readiness. Close-quarters battles, together with ship-to-ship combat, add welcome variety to the combat system.
