The head of a nation holds all the power and riches, and that very position makes him the target of countless ambitious people. Who can resist the lure of money and authority?

Beyond the schemes within the royal harem, the rivalries among courtiers, the clashes between political factions, and the threat of foreign invaders, a king also had to live in constant dread of assassination. That fear followed him every day and every hour. His meals, his drinks, his bed, and anything placed close to him could not be fully trusted. Food and drink might be laced with poison, those nearest to him could turn against him, and loyal servants might secretly dream of wearing the crown themselves. Many rulers simply could not bear this crushing pressure and gave up the throne, retreating to a quiet, carefree life. Others, weaker in spirit, sank into depression or madness and never knew a single moment of peace.

In Murder, you take on the role of an assassin. You can be anyone and do anything. Every player has the same goal: reach the reigning king, strike at the perfect moment, take him down in a single blow by any means available, and then rise as the new ruler of the land.

But once you sit on the throne, the cycle of assassination does not let you go. You quickly become the next victim in a chain of attempts made by others. The player keeps stepping into the role of assassin, eliminating every king in the kingdom. This relentless cycle of murder carries on, just as history has shown, since no one can resist the allure of power and wealth that comes with the crown.

Disguise, trickery, attack, and perfect timing matter most

To become an assassin, you must disguise yourself to get close to the king. Murder presents a wide range of contexts, circumstances, and scenarios, each giving players a unique disguise. Pick a role, play it convincingly, and become a successful assassin.

You might find yourself dressed as one of the court jesters whose job is to entertain His Majesty. Sometimes you are the one presenting flowers to the king during an important ceremony. Other times you slip into the palace with a concealed weapon. You can even take on the role of a cook and slip poison into the king's food. The game features hundreds of distinct roles. Regardless of the method, the most important factor is timing. Choosing the right moment to strike decides whether you succeed or fail. If your attempt works, quickly grab the crown and become the next ruler of the kingdom. If you fail, you are immediately handcuffed, kicked aside, and thrown into a prison cell where a gong sounds and it's game over. Replay that level until you win, then move on to the next one.
