Gameplay

Ming: Rivers of Blood delivers real-time combat. When you start, you pick one of six character classes and set off through the game's world. As you win battles, your hero gains levels, grows stronger, and unlocks new abilities and features.

A standout part of the game design is the companion system. Throughout your adventure you can recruit companions who fight at your side, boosting your combat power, particularly against tough foes. Early on you can bring just one companion, but as you progress you unlock extra companion slots, letting you travel with up to three.

Character classes in Ming: Rivers of Blood

Overlord

The Overlord is the most well-rounded class in Ming: Rivers of Blood, with attack and defense stats spread evenly. It is comparatively simple to control. Its skills include:

• Unstoppable: Launches a three-stage chain of attacks that deal heavy damage.
• Tide Turning Spear: Hurls three chains forward to drag the enemy closer, then finishes with a crushing blow.
• Solar Strike: Jumps high and slams the ground with a powerful blow, dealing area damage and launching enemies into the air.
• Lay Down Arms: Goes into a berserk state, relentlessly attacking the target while building up armor.

Cavalry

This melee class wields a long-handled weapon and fights from horseback. The Cavalry is built for relentless pressure, dealing significant damage over time, and it has a range of tools that help with nimble movement. It has four skills in total:

• Spear and Steed: Unleashes two vertical strikes to either side, followed by one horizontal strike forward.
• Sun Breaker Wildfowl: Charges ahead on horseback, then thrusts the spear, dealing damage and knocking back anyone it hits.
• Dust Howl: Smashes the ground hard, dealing damage and slowing nearby enemies.
• Azure Dragon Strike: Spins the spear nonstop to damage the target. Once the spinning ends, it slashes forward for heavy damage and grants a shield.

Shadow Dancer

This class fights with a longsword. In Ming: Rivers of Blood, the Shadow Dancer is designed as a main damage dealer, using its skills to take down enemies quickly. It has four skills:

• Sparse Star: Summons a phantom clone that attacks four times alongside the main character's clone.
• Shadow Piercer: Dashes forward with a swift slash at the enemy while creating two clones that strike at the same time.
• Shadow Strike: Slashes twice, then summons a clone that knocks the enemy into the air.
• Shadow Summon: Dashes forward while slashing in a circle, then creates a clone that repeats the move a short distance ahead, pulling nearby enemies toward it and slowing them down.

Wind Walker

The Wind Walker is a ranged class that fights with daggers. It concentrates on burst damage and features eye-catching attack animations. It has five skills in total:

• Leliae Breeze: Rapidly throws three blades at the target.
• Cloud Pricker: Throws four blades at the target at once, dealing area damage.
• Thunder Crash: Conjures four blades around the character. The blades then automatically seek out and attack the target, dealing area damage and stunning enemies within range.
• Windborne Charge: Calls forth a wind ring that boosts attack speed for you and your allies.
• Tidal Surge: Conjures a matrix of blades that damages every enemy within range, while also granting you armor for the ability's duration.

Gunner

The Gunner is a ranged class armed with a handheld cannon. It excels at dealing heavy area-of-effect damage, and its skills boost both firing speed and attack power. The Gunner's abilities are as follows:

• Skyward Feather: Launches four consecutive volleys of projectiles that deal damage on impact. The fourth volley fires four projectiles at once.
• Darkflame Shatter: Unleashes a powerful projectile that deals area-of-effect damage and slows every enemy in the blast zone.
• Skyrend Shriek: Builds up energy, then releases a straight beam that damages and knocks back every enemy it hits.
• Feather Flight: Briefly increases attack speed and attack power.
• Feather Storm: Fires three consecutive bursts of powerful projectiles, each containing three shots. Each burst deals massive area-of-effect damage and knocks back enemies in the affected area.

Artificer

The Artificer fights with a crossbow and rides a mechanical gorilla into battle. This intriguing class can deal high damage while also inflicting poison on enemies. The Artificer has four skills:

• Furious Ape: Attacks forward three times, dealing damage and applying poison.
• Mountain-Shaking Ape: Orders the ape to roar, firing five arrows in different directions that deal damage and apply poison.
• Ape Sunder: Leaps forward and slams the ground, stunning enemies in an area and applying poison.
• Rampaging Ape: The ape charges forward relentlessly, dealing massive damage and poisoning the target. While active, the character gains armor.
