Game details:
Mensch ärgere Dich nicht! ranks among the top 100 most well-known brands in Germany according to Deutsche Standards. Many companies have used it to communicate their values. Its positive image has been a boon for airlines that want passengers to stay calm during delayed flights, and for car rental businesses aiming to ease customer frustration.
In the classic 1950s film Wunderbare Zeiten, actor Heinz Rühmann described Mensch ärgere Dich nicht! as a smart, educational game that teaches you how to lose gracefully. He was right. Der Spiegel magazine named it the most played game in the country, which is easy to believe given its more than 100,000,000 copies sold. Players across Germany have enjoyed this dice game for over 100 years. Mensch ärgere Dich nicht! is the mother of all games. The original is available in many formats, yet its basic design still reflects its core values.
History:
This bestseller's success began in 1914, during World War I. Josef Friedrich Schmidt gave away 3,000 copies of the first edition, which featured colorful wooden skittles. Many German soldiers brought a bag full of memories home from the war, along with Mensch ärgere Dich nicht! Don't worry about it! The rules let you get ahead of your opponents while sending their pieces back, and it quickly became a popular family pastime.
Josef Friedrich Schmidt, who soon became the respected owner of a small game company, was delighted. Two years later, the slightly somber-looking man could be seen gazing into German living rooms from more than one million red boxes. The company has sold over 100 million copies of this board game to date, which many consider the best and most addictive in the world of gaming.
