Years ago, shortly after the fall of communism in the country, I left my small hometown to study in Prague. It wasn't long before I met Fanouš, and later his friend Jarouš. They introduced me to the tactics of Bidding Mariáš, and I quickly found that the game was not only tremendously fun but could also be surprisingly profitable. Over time, I developed from a clueless beginner into a reasonably skilled card player.During those same years, I was teaching myself programming, and more than once I thought about turning my Mariáš know-how into a computer game. Yet I never got around to it. Only with the arrival of smartphones did I finally take on the challenge.Computer opponents can't match real people, but they do have outstanding memories. If you spot Fanouš or Jarouš making a particularly poor move, you can send it to me by opening the game details and choosing "Send for Evaluation" from the menu.You can switch between Bidding Mariáš and Chosen Mariáš in the settings.At the start of each game, both Jarouš and Fanouš are randomly assigned a risk level from 1 to 3. Level 1 represents a cautious player, while level 3 represents a risk-taker. The risk level influences bidding and doubling. You can adjust the minimum and maximum risk levels in the settings. Some players may find cautious opponents a little dull, so I suggest setting the range to 2–3, or even straight to 3–3.You can learn more within the game itself by tapping the INFO button.A brief overview of some rules:The ten and ace can only be discarded into the talon in Betl and Durch.A declared seven can only be played as the final card.When playing with two sevens, the ten ranks directly below the ace.A declared seven cannot be discarded into the talon.An ordinary seven won during bidding may be discarded.A seven is not played if there are no doubles, or if only the main game has been doubled.Points for a Hundred are added together.Doubling is limited to Flek–Re–Tutti–Boty.If the game freezes, please use the @ button in the settings to send me a record of the last game.PIATNIK playing cards are used with the kind permission of Wiener Spielkartenfabrik Ferd.
