In Hopeless: The Dark Cave, you control a yellow character who trembles constantly as the black space around him closes in. He carries a gun to take down the enemies that appear, but you have to be careful, since he can also hurt his friends if you aren't paying attention. Your objective is straightforward: last as long as you can and track down the friends hiding in the darkness.

Still, each character who stands close to another boosts your chance of survival.

When new characters join you and form a group, survival becomes easier, since the level only ends once the enemies have captured every character you control. Their numbers grow over time, which gives you chances to build impressive combos. It also gives them room to carry out their own plans. Once the dweller counter on the right side of the screen fills up, most of the characters escape, leaving just one to keep rescuing the remaining allies.

Reach a certain level and you'll unlock additional modes, such as Survival.
