The storyline hasn't changed much, and once again you must help the main character rescue his loved ones. This time they've been trapped in a pitch-black cave where there is no light and finding a way out is nearly impossible. The caverns are crawling with monsters, some roaming the ground and others flying through the air. In every level, you'll grab a powerful revolver, hop into a cart, and set off to search for your companions.

The game's biggest challenge is that you won't be able to see what lies ahead in the total darkness. You can eventually unlock gear that lights up the path, but it doesn't work especially well and draws extra attention from the monsters. Telling who is standing in front of you from their silhouette will be nearly impossible, so you could end up shooting a monster or one of your own comrades by mistake.

As you've probably gathered, finishing a level means more than just reaching the far end of the area; you also need to rescue as many fireflies as you can. Just like in the earlier games, the controls rely on simple taps on the screen, letting you aim your shots in whatever direction you need. Coins and crystals can be spent on new carts, weapons, and headwear for the fireflies.
