Battles play out fully automatically, yet the result hinges on where and how you place your characters, which makes it both interesting and unique. Some auto battles let you gather gold, weapons, and armor just by leaving the game running, while stage battles let you position heroes and challenge enemies head-on. Train your characters with the money and gear you earn, then take down powerful opponents!

A STRATEGIC BATTLE WHERE TEAM FORMATION DECIDES VICTORY OR DEFEAT

Watch out for enemies attacking from behind! I assumed it was a fully automatic, relaxed RPG, but I lost quickly. My mage, who was hit from behind while attacking at long range, got completely overwhelmed. This shows how much strategy lies in studying hero attributes and positioning front-line and back-line units against enemy formations. Simply raising levels isn't enough. The responsive strategic auto battles are appealing, but the gameplay doesn't seem to have evolved much from the earlier title "I Am Hero". It's a bit of a missed opportunity.

TIPS FOR GETTING AN EARLY LEAD IN "HEROES & EMPIRES"

Complete the Heroes & Empires quests, and don't forget to recruit the phoenix chicks. They'll help you advance through the stages early and unlock various content. Be sure to claim the achievement rewards from the different quests too. Rare characters even grant rewards just by checking their profiles, so it's worth remembering to do that.

Study the enemy formation first

Once you start worrying about attributes and synergies in Heroes & Empires when organizing your team, you're on your way to becoming an advanced player. If you can't win, upgrade the units you plan to deploy and swap your front-line and back-line characters. Don't neglect strengthening low-rarity characters either.
