GetBlue Data Acquisition Tool is a Productivity Android app developed by TEC-IT that you can install on your Android devices and start using right away!

GetBlue handles both automated data acquisition and manual device communication for Bluetooth SPP devices, serial USB devices, TCP/IP, HTTP and camera barcode scanners. The full version runs in the background, continuously collecting data from Bluetooth SPP, serial USB, TCP/IP, HTTP and camera scanners. Captured data can be routed to adjustable target devices, files, online spreadsheets or even typed into third-party applications. It supports bi-directional device communication, and manual functions for reading and writing data are included as well.

DETAILS The GetBlue data acquisition app captures data from a configurable source and passes it on to any supported target. Currently, the following devices and protocols are available:

◾ Bluetooth SPP and Bluetooth RFCOMM Any serial Bluetooth device that supports the Serial Port Profile (such as SPP or RFCOMM barcode scanners) can be used. GetBlue works in both Bluetooth client and Bluetooth server mode, so any Bluetooth-enabled device as well as PC connections are supported.

◾ Serial USB May not work on some Android devices. FTDI and Prolific chipsets are supported.

◾ TCP/IP Socket Works with any device that provides a TCP/IP socket.

◾ HTTP HTTP GET and HTTP POST requests with customizable parameters.

◾ Camera scanners Any external camera scanner app can be used.

◾ Manual data input Device commands can be typed in manually. Captured data can be forwarded to any target device via Bluetooth, USB, TCP/IP and HTTP. Collected data can also be

◾ displayed (HEX or ASCII) ◾ saved locally to a file (with time stamps) ◾ uploaded to a Google Docs Spreadsheet ◾ or entered into any app on your smartphone through the GetBlue soft keyboard (keyboard wedge operation).

APPLICATION SCENARIOS GetBlue can serve as a keyboard wedge (scanning barcodes with a Bluetooth scanner and feeding the barcode data into any app), an automated data logger (for example, uploading captured data to a Google Docs spreadsheet or saving it to a local file), a tool for controlling Bluetooth devices, or a low-cost barcode scanner connected to a PC, among other uses.

KNOWN PROBLEMS Some Android devices ship with faulty Bluetooth firmware, so SPP communication may not work reliably. The following steps may help:

◾ Turn off Bluetooth and close all related apps ◾ Restart your device ◾ Turn Bluetooth back on ◾ Reconnect the device ◾ Open GetBlue
