About ELSA Speak

ELSA Speak relies on speech recognition technology to help learners perfect their English pronunciation. It analyzes the way you speak and recommends adjustments to bring your speech closer to that of a native English speaker. The app examines several aspects of your speech to measure your command of English, then builds a learning plan tailored to you. Along the way, it presents realistic everyday English scenarios and prompts you to practice your pronunciation.

Once you install the app, you're invited to take a placement test so that it can design a learning plan around your goals and interests. You can also share additional details, such as your native language and why you want to learn English, which helps the app tailor its suggestions and feedback. You set your own targets, and the app supports you in reaching them with reminders and tips. To make it easier to stay on track, it can schedule your tasks for the times that suit you best and send reminders for any you miss. Its tasks and recommendations are shaped by your job and daily routine.

After you create an account, the app opens up thousands of lessons spanning more than 40 topics, including common expressions and everyday phrases. You can practice grammar and speaking with the on-screen character Elsa, and each session comes with a practice plan and a summary to help you monitor your progress.

The app begins by evaluating your English in areas such as conversation, pronunciation, and sentence structure, then points out where you most need to improve. From there, it lays out a learning path aimed at those weak spots. Each step on that path consists of several lessons that combine demonstration videos, practice exercises, and assessments. After every lesson, the app checks how much you have improved, and it keeps guiding you this way until you reach your target.

After your initial tests, the app builds individualized lesson plans and presents video tutorials that explain the differences between similar sounds. Its vocabulary is organized by level and topic. You can review metrics on your pronunciation and on how you handle stress and intonation within sentences, along with feedback on your progress in areas such as fluency. This feedback is personalized to your needs, and the focus differs depending on whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner.

The app works for learners at every level, offering material that matches their needs. It uses recordings from native speakers to give you sentences to practice, helping you prepare to speak with people in your field and to work at international companies. You can record yourself and analyze the recordings to identify what causes misunderstandings with non-native speakers. The app also acts as a personal voice coach, offering feedback and improvement suggestions based on your goals. Voice analysis and feedback are geared toward helping you communicate more effectively in professional settings, with the emphasis on spoken English that supports your objectives.
