Dream Star Monster Arcade is a shooting RPG built around a distinctive stage layout. Set across islands where the player's side and the enemy's side are split apart, you'll need to intercept foes that strike from afar with projectiles or dive in from the sky! Push through many stages by making the most of various items, in-stage builds, and the permanent training menu for upgrading and swapping your gear.

SHOOTING BATTLES AGAINST FEROCIOUS MONSTERS

Enemy monsters stand on the opposite island and fire shots at you, or swoop through the sky to launch close-range attacks. Move your character to dodge incoming threats, then halt and fire back at the enemy. Beyond your standard shot, take down the monsters on the island with in-stage builds that boost attack power, and grab the items enemies drop to disrupt them.

FEATURES A STAGE SETUP BUILT ON AN ISLAND

Fantasy island visuals, with a permanent training menu also available. The gameplay flow resembles Archer's, but the stage is split down the middle of the screen. It's frustrating that you can't close the distance to enemies, yet you can use items like tornadoes and bombs they drop to hinder and attack them. My only concern was that the stage offers just three build elements and the shot style never changes.

BOOST YOUR CHARACTER WITH GEAR AND FUNDS

Characters earn experience points during stages and level up, raising attack power, defense, and the funds they collect. This progress resets each run, but as you advance, you can unlock weapons such as knives and axes to swap in or upgrade. A training menu also spends funds to randomly raise your stats, and since these gains are permanent, steady training prepares your character well for the next stage.

TIPS FOR EARLY STAGE STRATEGY

The upgrade menu is locked at the start, so clear a stage to unlock it. Clearing a WAVE within a stage also grants a temporary boost to attack power, defense, or collected funds. Until the enhancement menu opens, it's wise to focus your upgrades on either offense or defense.

USE DROP ITEMS EFFECTIVELY

Gather items while dodging enemy attacks. Defeating an enemy in a stage has a chance to drop a variety of items. Alongside potions that restore stamina, some items summon tornadoes or drop bombs onto the enemy's island. It works well to move your character to collect them while avoiding enemy fire, then stop and shoot while the enemy is staggered.
