His mother gives him a necklace to carry on his journey, along with a letter for his future stepfather that ultimately grants him permission to leave home and start a new life in the big city.

The protagonist sells the necklace that gets him into the city, a move that marks the end of his past and drives him to find new ways to support his family. Located on the city's outskirts, a guard selling the watch lets the protagonist into a room where he will stay.
