Horror games remain a favorite genre among mobile gamers. If you're one of those fans, why not give Bad Parenting 1: Mr. Red Face a try? It's a title built by a studio based in Vietnam. Let's take a closer look at what makes it stand out!

Introducing Bad Parenting 1: Mr. Red Face

Bad Parenting 1: Mr. Red Face is a horror title from 2002 Studio, a developer based in Vietnam. It launched in August 2024 and quickly earned plenty of praise for its gripping plot and unsettling imagery.

Story

The game draws its inspiration from Mr. Red Face, a fictional figure that parents often invent to shape their children's behavior. According to the legend, he visits at night, rewarding well-behaved kids and punishing the naughty ones. What seemed like nothing more than a bedtime tale slowly turns frightening once Mr. Red Face begins appearing in the real world.

You'll follow the boy Ron through the entire adventure. His father, Bruce, is an unemployed alcoholic, while his mother is a hardworking woman who loves and looks after her son. The trouble begins when Ron's parents get into a bitter fight. Wanting to avoid the tense scene, Ron is told to head to his room and sleep. Bruce keeps drinking and cursing, destroying things around the house. The story reaches its peak when Bruce, consumed by rage, storms into Ron's room and strangles him.

Realizing what he has done, Bruce panics, tries to conceal the body, and flees to a cheap motel in a remote area. The next morning, Ron's mother wakes up and discovers his body inside the wardrobe. Ron's soul, now trapped after death, is stuck in an endless world with no exit. The full truth only comes to light when Ron finally comes to terms with himself, slips his soul into his favorite toy, The Doll, and recounts the events.

Determined to ease his mother's grief and find peace, Ron sets out to let her know about his father's crime and reveal the motel where Bruce is hiding. With that information, the police could track him down and hold him accountable for his actions.

Gameplay

The game is far more complex than the simple story above suggests. You'll guide Ron through a nightmarish world, experiencing everything through the eyes of an innocent child. The frightening Mr. Red Face is, in fact, a metaphor for an abusive, drunken father.

Move around and complete the tasks the game presents to unlock new plot details. Each finished task reveals another layer of this heartbreaking story.

The game pulls you into an eerie world where you must confront your darkest fears and piece together fragments of a cold, painful tragedy. Once you finish playing, it's sure to leave you with an intense and unforgettable horror experience.

Graphics

The game uses 3D visuals inspired by the old cartoons of the 1990s. This distinctive art style creates a creepy, unsettling atmosphere throughout, with details intentionally rendered in rough, blocky shapes instead of crisp, clean lines.

The fear intensifies when you experience everything from a first-person viewpoint within suffocatingly dark spaces. The only illumination comes from faint wall lamps, making it feel like you're watching an old VHS tape. This combination gives the game a nostalgic yet deeply unnerving feel.

Toward the end, on the path to heaven, Ron encounters other unfortunate children who lost their lives in similar tragedies, all victims of domestic violence. The game offers more than a horror experience; it also delivers a meaningful lesson that resonates with everyone.
