The AUT – Auto USB Tether utility automatically turns on USB tethering whenever you plug your phone into a computer or Mac with a USB cable.

I tried ten other apps from the Play Store, but none worked on my device. Some were too complicated to use, and others simply failed on my phone. Since Android doesn't support auto-activation for USB tethering, it's not surprising those apps fell short. From a developer's standpoint, this is a tricky problem to solve.

AUT takes a different route. It relies on auto-detection to figure out the required parameters. No app can promise success on every device, but this approach covers far more devices than apps that rely on hardcoded parameters, so it's well worth a try!

AUT can display your USB in and out network traffic, and it can also hide any tethered traffic.

To work properly, AUT requires a rooted device.

On non-rooted devices, AUT can only open the Tethering System Settings screen. You'll also need to monitor your USB network traffic yourself.

AUT tries to detect the parameters it needs to run automatically (these vary by Android version and vendor model), but this isn't always possible.

Before you start, make sure you have the following:

1. USB tethering works when you turn it on manually from System Settings (you may need to install drivers on your computer).

2. USB tethering is working again. AUT automates turning on USB tethering when you connect to your computer or Mac by cable.

3. Your device is rooted.

4. AUT has been granted root permissions.

5. AUT hasn't warned you that it couldn't auto-detect certain parameters.

6. AUTO USB TETHER is switched on within AUT.

Once you've checked all of the above, connect your device to your computer or Mac with a USB cable.

If something goes wrong, email [email protected] with details of your Android version and vendor model. You can also use the Auto-Report feature in AUT (Menu > Send Report).

AUT is available only from the Google Play Store. The free version shows ads and allows 25 USB tethering activations. After that, you'll need to buy a license inside the app (Menu > Buy license).

Once you buy a license, the ads go away and all usage limits are lifted.

Help improve AUT

If your device has trouble with AUT, you can send a report to help the developer fix compatibility for your model.

1. Turn on USB tethering manually using System Settings.

2. Return to AUT and choose Menu > Send Report.

3. Send the generated email report.

The developer may contact you to test a development build. If the test succeeds, you'll receive a promo code that unlocks AUT.
