    Description

AudioTool APK – An SPL (deciBel) meter packed with RT60, Leq, Sone, a spectrum analyzer, spectrogram, chart recorder, signal generator, polarity checker, and microphone calibration.

Key features: 1/1, 1/3, 1/6 and 1/12 octave RTA modes, Leq (wideband, octave, variable duration), Sones (loudness), RT60 (wideband and octave), Peak Store, spectrogram, waterfall, peak frequency, impulse, Fast, Medium and Slow filters, Flat, A/C weighting and the film industry X Curve, averaging, SPL chart recorder, Noise Criteria (NC and NR), White and Pink Noise, Sine, Square, Triangle, Sweep, Log Sweep, Warble, Ramp and Impulse signals, a loudspeaker polarity checker, and L/R selection. RTA Store and Load, Hann windows, pinch to zoom, and scroll to center.

Recent updates from April 2019: v8.0 adds the ability to load one or two stored spectrum files and display them alongside real-time data. v8.1 adds a new generator option to swap the phase of the right stereo signal. v8.2 adds a “Set Resolution” menu option for 4096, 8192 or 16384 sample lengths. v8.3 introduces the 1/12 octave RTA mode.

Exclusive 1/3 octave ISO calibration can correct for your phone’s microphone response. Calibration discs are adjusted up or down to achieve a flat response and to match the overall SPL reading to that of an external meter. Save and restore of calibration files is supported, including the popular Dayton Audio iMM-6 and MicW i436.

Typical uses include live sound measurements, home theater setup, acoustics work, car audio tuning, and more.

AudioTool runs FFTs on microphone samples, with Hann windowing to reduce aliasing. SPL is calculated in real time. Spectra can be saved, then loaded and shown alongside the live spectrum. The “Store” button saves the current live spectrum, while “Load” displays a list of stored spectra to choose from.

Tap the screen to hide the buttons, and tap again to bring them back. Pinch the screen to zoom the scale, and drag it up, down, left or right to move it.

Two cursors can be displayed. Each one can be placed at any position and shows the SPL and time or frequency values at that point. You can turn the cursors on or off from the menu.

The loudspeaker polarity checker helps you confirm that a speaker is wired in phase. Connect the AudioTool output to the speaker under test, select “Polarity” on the signal generator screen, then return to the RTA screen. An out-of-phase speaker (reversed polarity) shows “Pol —”, while an in-phase speaker shows “Pol +++”.

The Noise Criteria function overlays a set of NC contours on the 1/1 octave RTA display and also shows the calculated real-time NC value.

The Chart Recorder displays a moving trace of SPL measurements over the last few minutes.

RT60 measurements, which indicate how much reverberation or echo a room or hall has, can be taken with the “RT60” function. You trigger it with a loud clap or similar sound, or with Pink Noise from the AudioTool generator.

The Signal Generator produces White and Pink Noise, Sine, Square, Triangle and Ramp waves, Sine Linear and Log Sweeps, Warbles and Impulses. It uses multiple cycled buffers that are refreshed randomly, which keeps the White and Pink Noise truly random.

The frequency accuracy of the Signal Generator is typically around 1%, and sine wave fidelity is good across most of the audio range. Other signals may show ringing at their leading and trailing edges, along with some decline in frequency response at the upper range, depending on the phone being used.
