Description
What an atmospheric game unlike any other! It's a survival RPG in which a girl drifts alone through a flooded world, armed with only a fishing rod and a raft.
A GIRL DRIFTS ALONE ACROSS A BEAUTIFUL BUT FLEETING SEA
A Girl Adrift is a survival RPG following a girl who travels alone across an ocean where everything has been submerged. Fishing is the core activity: once you cast your line, a bite arrives within a few seconds. Battles use a clicker-style system, where you wear down a fish's HP by tapping repeatedly. You can earn money by buying and selling the materials you gather and by collecting rare species, and you can customize plenty of parts, including fishing rods, ships, and the girl's appearance.
Melancholic desolation, soothing music and visuals, and the thrill of adventuring across the open sea combine into a charm you won't find in other games. It's such a rare indie title that I was worried about even introducing it before the Japanese version came out, so this release is a big deal!
THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT OF A MARINE ADVENTURE IN A HIGH-QUALITY ATMOSPHERE!
Let's start with the visuals. The 2D characters move with smooth animation, blend beautifully with the 3D backgrounds, and are very cute. You can change outfits to style your character without worrying about performance, and most items can be bought with in-game currency.
The scenery shifts between day and night, with waves and clouds swaying quietly alongside the sound of the wind and warm yet lonely colors. Such a captivating atmosphere is rare. The repetitive fishing gameplay is simple, but it's enjoyable to sail around the world while waiting for encounters with unique, rare fish.
Catching giant enemies one by one and steadily growing stronger fits perfectly with the exploration and curiosity of charting uncharted waters. If I had to sum up this game in one word, it would be an "atmosphere game," but that label alone would undersell it. The carefully crafted design and sheer amount of content make it more immersive than you might expect, letting you play for a long time.
TIPS FOR THE EARLY STAGES
In the early stages, to move the quest forward, try catching the boss fish in the new sea area. For a while, you can beat it smoothly without leveling up. Each time you clear it, your rank rises and new content is unlocked. Next, I'll cover some items I found useful. Using the medal currency from alchemy, you can strengthen "automatic fishing," which catches weaker fish without battles. It only works on low-level fish you've caught at least once, but since it's the main way to earn money, raise it to about level 3, and when you spot a new species, go after it aggressively. You can purchase avatars in sea areas with inhabitants, and once bought, they grant an ability bonus even when not equipped. Buy the cheap ones even if they don't look good.
